My name is John Robinson and I’m a retired IT consultant/project manager formerly with CSC Computer Sciences Corporation; a major US IT Consultancy and Facilities management company.
churchwarden (1983 - 1998 & 2006 - 2008) at St. Chad’s Skerton, Lancaster. (re-elected 2011)
As chairman of the LDCS, I was asked a few years ago to co-ordinate diaries with local choirs following a bad clash between ourselves and another prominent Lancaster choir. This was the basis of a document which was circulated to the choirs, orchestras and venues who had submitted information. There are now some 40 choirs, orchestras and venues who submit dates. However, clashes still occur regardless, but less often!
Eventually, as more organizations contributed, and other kinds of information were added, I decided that there was sufficiently interesting content to publish it for the concert going public. This was done during the summer of 2008.
Further, as I was developing a web site for the Lancaster and District Choral Society, I decided to produce one for the B.a.c.l. and to allow downloads to be performed. This is done for each issue quarterly with updates on the downloaded version done monthly or even more often.
As a bit of additional background, during the 60’s I played the drums in numerous local ‘beat’ groups. However, in 1977, I went to the University of Lancaster to read ‘Economics’ and ‘Arabic’ at Honours level. I subsequently worked in the defence industry and then I moved to CSC in 1994. In recent years, for a change, I picked up a Diploma in Music through the Open University as well as other mainly I.T. related subjects.
In addition, once a year, although it takes a lot more than that, I am involved in a four-choir event called “Over The Sands” which raises money for charity see www.overthesands.org.uk on the ‘Links’ page.

Currently, I am Chairman of the Lancaster & District Choral Society (LDCS) and have been a member since 2001; singing baritone (1st bass). I’ve sung with various choirs over the last 28 years including my own church choir since 1983. I was
Thanks to everyone who forwards the information to enable me to perform the task of compiling the B.a.c.l. and to “Promenade Music” at Morecambe for their sponsorship of the document’s publication.
